Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art Opening

Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art

The Museum of Arts & Sciences (MOAS) will be opening the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art to the public on Sunday, February 8, 2015. The public opening of the new Museum will be marked with a celebratory ribbon cutting that will take place at 1:00pm. Those in attendance will be among the first to see the stunning interior of the Museum as well as the exquisite collection of Florida paintings it houses. The Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art will feature Florida themed oil and watercolor paintings dating back to 1839. The entire Brown collection consists of over 2,600 paintings of Florida and is the most extensive collection of Florida art in the world. The size and scope of the collection means that it is perfect to illustrate the many stories that can be told about the geography and natural history of Florida. While artists or styles can be highlighted and discussed, visitors can also learn about Florida’s weather or native wildlife through creative theming and interpretation. The new Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art truly identifies with the subject that it encompasses. The project team consisting of RLF Architects of Orlando and Bomar Construction Inc. of Ormond Beach, who constructed the building, were tasked with keeping the look of the Museum natural to Florida, as if it were built out of natural materials. The interior contains a large, permanent gallery including a mezzanine, which will showcase the collections’ signature pieces. The Museum will also include six smaller, changing galleries, ranging from 900 to 2,000 square feet, conference and education rooms, a café with outdoor seating and a gift shop. Conference rooms and meeting and event spaces will be available to the public on a rental basis.
